Vet Assistant

NunaVet Animal Hospital is looking for a reliable, full-time Vet Assistant. This is a career opportunity.
This is an opportunity to get into the field of veterinary medicine and to train at an entry level position! As a Vet Assistant, you would be an important part of the veterinary team assisting in both office and clinical day to day duties.
The job involves working with animals, dealing with the public in a friendly and educational manner, and working both directly with the veterinarian and solo tasks. The clinic can be fast-paced, with many hours on your feet depending on the appointment schedule. Primary training will be on the job, with supplemental training through on-line certification.
NunaVet Animal Hospital is dedicated to provide consistent, high-quality pet care in Nunavut. We aim to train employees with the goal of longer term commitment to the clinic to be able to give clients and their pets, both familiarity with staff, and comfort with our care of their animals.

Daily Tasks Can Include:

  • Walking dogs and feeding/cleaning kennels for both cats and dogs

  • Maintaining cleanliness of the clinic – laundry, sweeping/mopping floors, taking out garbage

  • Answering phone calls, returning messages and booking appointments

  • Preparing files and forms for appointments and medical treatments

  • Working with needles and controlled substances

  • Performing x-rays, urinalysis, and running bloodwork

  • Prepping surgical tools and surgery room

  • Animal restraint for examination

  • Placing IV catheters

  • Preparing bio samples for shipping

  • Dealing with animal remains, feces and urine.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Diploma (or administration experience equivalency)

  • Work 9am-5pm with flexibility to work later or after hours

  • Able to lift 50 lbs

  • Looking for long-term, stable employment

  • Able to write and speak English

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Availability after hours and weekends

  • Driver's license

  • Ability to speak Inuktitut or French

  • NLCA Beneficiary

  • Previous experience working in a medical or veterinary setting
